Who is The Weekend Traveller?

I am Dheza Aguilar, a Dutch/Filipina who moved to the Netherlands in 2009. I am a journalist (freelance now) and while I am working in a completely different field nowadays, I can’t shake off my penchant for writing. That’s why I have this blog.

I work 40 hours a week so weekends and regular working holidays are the only time I have for travelling. I try to make the best of it, especially the weekends, thus the name of this blog.

What is your style of travelling?
When travelling for work, I go for comfort but at the same time budget-conscious. I have to plan my expenses based on my company’s travel budget. But most of the time, I usually ends up spending more of my own money on food especially in France and Italy where good food and good wine are abundant.

When I am travelling for pleasure, I prefer luxury because I would like to relax completely and not worry about not waking up early enough to catch the plane the next morning.

How do you pay for your travel?
I have a full time job and I finance my trips through my salary. Every once in a while, I also travel for work. In fact, my earliest trips were mostly for work, visiting different ports in Europe and attending to the ships under the company I work for.

What are your travel blogging essentials?
iPhone, MacBook Air, a notepad, a good book and my credit card.

When I am not travelling, I can be found at home reading my favourite books, sipping Macallan, whipping out dishes for my husband or whacking my brain out for whatever new language I try to learn.

I hope you will enjoy my stories and hopefully you will come back for more. You can also get in touch with me on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or email to dhezamarie@theweekendtraveller.com. No spam please.

Feel free to share your thoughts on my blog in the comment section below or you can always email me at dhezamarie@theweekendtraveller.com. And as we say in Dutch, tot ziens (see you soon).

Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, all content and photos are mine. Travel expenses and meals at restaurants I’ve reviewed are all paid for and not sponsored.

On a foodblog of a friend of mine (Vicky) I saw you mention a Philippine recipe for pig’s knuckles. I love pig’s knuckles but have only had them prepared in a German fashion. I would love to try try your recipe. Do you care to share? If so, please email me at patsydahlin at yahoo dot com

    cheers,
