Who is The Weekend Traveller?

My name is Dheza but perhaps I am not the only Weekend Traveller. But since I travel mostly during the weekend, I decided to call this blog such. I’m glad that you found your way to my site. I hope you will enjoy my stories. I am a Filipino journalist who moved to Holland to join my Dutch husband. It had been my home now for more than 3 years. Because I am Asian and I will have always this fascination for Europe, I try to go on a weekend trip at least twice a month, more when I go on a business trip.

What is your style of travelling?
When travelling for work, I go for comfort but at the same time budget-conscious. I have to plan my expenses based on my company’s travel budget. But most of the time, I usually ends up spending more of my own money on food especially in France and Italy where good food and good wine are abundant.

When I am travelling for pleasure, I prefer luxury because I would like to relax completely and not worry about not waking up early enough to catch the plane the next morning.

How do you pay for your travel?
I am fortunate to be working in a company involved in shipping. Part of my job is to travel around European coasts chasing our cargo vessels and make sure their medical inventory is up to the regulations. It’s a very rewarding job and very exciting as well. Sometimes I go to almost 3 countries in one month to catch what I lovingly call “my ships”. In every business trip, I make sure to extend my travel to at least 2-3 days (weekends usually) to do a bit of sight-seeing.

Of course I also travel on extended periods (more than 48 hours) usually together with my husband.

What are your travel blogging essentials?
I always travel with a notepad, my laptop and my Samsung ST550 digital camera which was a gift from my husband. As you can see, I am not a professional photographer but I try to make good photos for this blog and sometimes for travel publications back home where I contribute stories once in a while.

When I am not travelling, I can be found at home reading my favorite books, sipping Macallan, whipping out dishes for my husband or whacking my brain out for whatever new language I try to learn.

I hope you will enjoy my stories and hopefully you will come back for more. You can also get in touch with me on Twitter, Facebook or an email to dhezamarie@theweekendtraveller.com. No spam please.

Feel free to share your thoughts on my blog in the comment section below or you can always email me at dhezamarie@theweekendtraveller.com

And as we say in Dutch, tot ziens (see you soon)
